Science is fundamental to our understanding of the world and the advancement of technology to benefit mankind. To foster future innovators, we need to educate and inspire youths today.
Biochemies was created to:
Dr. Jun Axup first fell in love with biology and chemistry through Science Olympiad competitions in high school. This led her to pursue a Bachelors degree in biochemistry at Indiana University (Bloomington, IN) and then a Ph.D. in chemical biology at The Scripps Research Institute (San Diego, CA). Today, she is a scientist in San Francisco developing bio-automation robotics to make biological research cheaper, more reproducible, and more accessible for everyone.
Biochemies is Jun's way of spreading her love of science. She seeks innovative ways to champion science outreach, open science, and changing cultural perceptions of science.
Biochemies.com was created in 2009 to showcase several biochemistry doodles Jun drew in her notebook. Then in 2011, the first plushes were created and became a real product thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign. In 2015, HappiLabware was created in collaboration with HappiLabs.
Over ten percent of profits are contributed to science education programs, schools, and other crowdfunding projects.
Biochemies DNA Molecule Plush Toys would not have been possible without the support of our 857 Kickstarter backers. Check out these awesome people!
